Applies to: Manager Advanced; Jobs; Android version upgrade

Pushing an Android version upgrade to a fleet of devices is a Manager Advanced workflow, set up as a Job with the Android version upgrade option and assigned to your target devices or groups. This lets you schedule the upgrade to run at a specific time instead of triggering it manually on each device.

Before you begin

This is a Manager Advanced feature. Target devices need a Manager Advanced license assigned, and must support the Android version upgrade path — confirm this on the Manager device capability chart before planning a rollout, since support varies by model and current Android version.

Create and assign the Job

To schedule an Android version upgrade across multiple devices:

  1. Click the Menu to open the side panel, then click Jobs.

  2. Click Show live jobs, then click the Add icon to create a new Job.

  3. Name the Job and set a Scheduling option and execution time for when the upgrade should run.

  4. Add the Android version upgrade command to the Job's command list.

  5. Click Save to create the Job.

  6. Assign the Job to your target devices or a device group, then turn Scheduling on to activate it.

Additional notes

Some additional points that may be useful:

  • Caution: an Android version upgrade triggers a device restart. Schedule the Job to run outside active hours so it does not interrupt device use.

  • Only devices that support the Android version upgrade path, and have an Advanced license assigned, will pick up the Job.

  • A Job must have Scheduling turned on and devices assigned to it before it will run — new Jobs are off by default.

Need more help

If a scheduled Android version upgrade does not run or fails on some devices, contact ViewSonic Support with the Job name, the affected device models, and the scheduled execution time.
