Review your monitor’s specifications to confirm if the ViewSonic monitor comes with built-in speakers before troubleshooting. If the steps below do not resolve the issue, test a different source device. 

 
 

  1. 1. Check the Monitor’s Volume Settings 

  1. a. Pull up your monitor's On-Screen Display (OSD) menu and navigate to the Audio Adjust settings. 

 

  1. b. Ensure the volume levels are up and the monitor’s mute option is disabled. 
     

  1. c. If the monitor offers the Audio Input option, set it to the corresponding input. (i.e.: HDMI, DisplayPort, Audio In). 

 

NOTE: Your monitor's On-Screen Display (OSD) menu may differ in appearance.

 
 

2.  Check Sound Configuration for Your Device 

For Windows 10 devices: 

  1. a. Tap the Start menu and select the cogwheel icon to open the settings menu. 

 


  1. b. Select System. 

  

  1. c. Select Sound. 

  • Set default playback device. 
  • Adjust the master volume. 

 


  1. d. Select Manage Sound devices and then select your audio device. Click Test to test the speakers. 

 

 
 

For macOS devices: 

  1. a. Click the Apple icon on your taskbar and select System Preferences. 
     

  1. b. Click the Sound icon. 

 


  1. c. Click the device to set it as the default playback device. Once selected, adjust the Output Volume at the bottom.

3. Check the Connections 


VGA / DVI - Both connections are analog connections which will ONLY carry the video signal. You will be REQUIRED to connect an additional audio cable. 

 

  1. a. Connect the audio cable to the AUDIO IN port on the monitor and the AUDIO OUT port on the source. Both ports are typically colored green. Make sure the cable is not damaged. 

 
 

 

NOTE: If an additional connection is present on the AUDIO OUT port, the sound signal will be redirected to that device.

 
 

HDMI / DisplayPort / USB-C -  These are digital connections which will carry, both, audio and video. An additional audio cable will not be required. 

 

  1. a. When using one of these connections, make sure to have the device selected within the Default Playback Device options listed in Step 2 above.


NOTE: Using an adapter or converter cable from digital to analog will cause you to lose the sound signal and will require an audio cable to be connected.



 

NOTE: Your monitor's I/O ports may differ.


 

4. Check for Audio Driver Updates  

  1. a. Open the Start menu and type Device Manager 

  1. b. Within the Device Manager, expand the Sound, video and game controllers category.  

  1. c. Right-click on your sound card, and tap Update Driver. Follow the prompts to automatically update.  

      


  1. d. Next, expand the Audio Inputs and Outputs category.  

  1. e. Right-click on your audio device, and tap Update Driver. Follow the prompts to automatically update.
